Mollymook Poole House

On the land of the Budawang people.

The Mollymook Poole House is a two story pavilion on the back of a Gabriel Poole modular house built for the original owners in 1990.

The intention of the existing house, as conceived by Gabriel Poole, was to provide an adaptable, informal and cost effective way of building, which responds thoughtfully to climate and site. Fundamental to Poole's design were simple, expressed lightweight structures and efficient minimal detailing, qualities that the new (third) pavilion seek to embody.

The new 40m2 pavilion provides additional sleeping area for up to six people, allowing the house to accommodate three families from three generations. It is an escape from the city, a place to gather, and a point of reconnection with one another and the environment.

These house by Gabriel Poole are rare in NSW. It has been a privilege for our office to work on, and learn from, a project by one of Australia's most influential 20th Century architects.
